Mikuni

So Inagiku at the Fairmont changed its name to Mikuni, and that got me puzzled for a while wondering if Mikuni was a new place in the basement. We used to go there quite a bit when I was in primary school, and my parents had one of those cards where 1 person gets a free meal.  That fizzled out some time ago after my parents gave it up, but recently, thanks to friends with the Amex Plat card, I managed a few weekday lunches there.

The interior is nice, but unnecessarily dim.

This was part of the sashimi set that cost $100. Fresh as it was (and they even fried the botan prawn head for us afterwards), no one in the right mind would eat there without a FAR card, except those with unlimited corporate entertainment budgets.

This was the Australian beef and lobster set ($120). Good, but not worth the price tag.

One of the salads that came with another lunch set.

On another occasion, I had the tempura set ($75) in the foreground, and my friend had the lunch bento ($100) with simmered vegetables in the background

The sashimi was pretty fresh, but then again, that was to be expected and shouldn't have been a surprise.

Loved their tempura - light, fluffy and not too oily

The dessert was some red bean cake that wasn't really fantastic.
Without the FAR promotion, there's no point spending that sort of money to eat there when it would be better to put the cash towards an air ticket to Tokyo. So looks like I won't be going there again soon, if at all.
